PAIN TREATMENTS: BACK, NECK, SHOULDERS, ELBOWS, KNEES
We have 30 years experience of assisting people in pain. We offer a myriad of treatments after assessment. Deep Tissue Massage, followed by Acupuncture to sedate the pain, followed by a wide array of soft tissue and joint mobilisation techniques are used.
DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE
Full body massage for 60 minutes. Typically used when your muscles have become tight or spasmed as a result of spinal misalignment or if you have just overdone it … in the garden, gym or sitting at a screen all day.
This type of massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscle tissue to release chronic or acute tension. Massage strokes can employ fingers, thumbs, knuckles and forearm usage.
CHINESE HERBAL MEDICINE
Chinese Herbal Formulas are individually prescribed based on my detailed consultation, observation and diagnosis. A number (8 - 14) of dry herbs are selected specifically to address any imbalances and symptoms you have manifested.
Typically a qualified herbalist trains for four years. You basically boil and simmer each batch of herbs according to instructions and then drink the juice extracted. As your symptoms change and your condition improves, your personalised formula may also be modified. Herbs are both remedial and preventative.
They are life-enhancing and can easily be used in conjunction with acupuncture and/or massage.
Reflexology is a gentle and relaxing therapy in which the nerve endings in the feet are stimulated by specific massage techniques to effect changes in another part of the body.
Stimulating these ‘reflexes’ helps to promote relaxation, improve circulation, stimulate vital organs in order to enhance the body’s natural healing ability.
An essential Traditional Chinese Medicine discipline. After an in-depth consultation and assessment (which must include tongue and pulse diagnosis), I can identify the best combination of acupuncture point to use.
Very fine needles are then inserted into these key points for about 30 minutes. The whole objective is to first identify where imbalances in the body are to be found and second, to restore the body’s energetic balance. Accompanying dietary and lifestyle advice may be provided.
This is suitable for a wide range of people, not just athletes. It is especially beneficial before and after sporting events. It incorporates deep tissue (muscle, tendon and fascia) work together with a wide range of mobilisation techniques.
Acupuncture (mentioned above) may also be employed to further enhance mobility and frequently inter-treatment exercises or processes are offered also. May be full body or treatment focussed on an injury.
Beneficial after injury or operation to aid recovery and assist rehabilitation. This type of physical therapy is curative in that it helps the body heal from muscular dysfunction and pain. Only appropriate pressure and degree of stretching is applied depending on your condition.
Mobilisation techniques and rehabilitation exercises to improve recovery time may be given. Full body or treatment focussed on injury may be involved post-assessment.
This therapeutic massage is relaxing, both physically and mentally. It is a wonderful way to rebalance and recharge. A variety of rhythmic massage techniques are employed to enhance physical and mental wellbeing. Specific oils are chosen after consultation to meet your individual needs.
These oils are blended with a base oil such as grapeseed or almond and is easily absorbed during your massage to promote balance and relaxation.
HOW DOES OUR WORK COMPARE WITH PHYSIOTHERAPY?
We offer treatments using a variety of physical therapies. Over this time we have treated many clients who have previously attended physio sessions.
Although we cannot profess to be physiotherapists, many of our clients come to us for pain relief and mobility issues often treated by physios.
We have continued to develop our own unique range of physical therapeutic treatments tailored to resolve musculoskeletal problems. These include: massage, soft tissue techniques, mobilisation, acupuncture, cupping, moxibustion and tailored exercise regimes for home use.
