Pain Treatments For Back, Neck & Shoulders

  • ARE YOU EXPERIENCING BACK PAIN?

  • DO YOU HAVE A STIFF NECK?

  • ARE YOUR SHOULDERS TENSE?

We have 30 years experience and a plethora of therapies, exercises and mobilisation tools to assist your recovery and ease pain and tension.

Pain is often regarded as an enemy.  It is, in fact, a messenger and it is usually trying hard to tell you that something is wrong.  You can choose to ignore it or block it out with medication. Long-term this will not resolve the underlying condition or identify the root cause.  Long-term use of painkillers are no longer being touted as the great saviour for chronic pain! In fact, they may cause harm.

It is best to truly get to the bottom of what is causing the pain - sort that out and pain will disappear.

Back, neck and shoulder pain and tension are very common, affecting nearly everybody at some stage in their lives.  Deskbound jobs, poor posture as well as overdoing it can all result in pain.

TYPES OF BACK, NECK & SHOULDER PAIN

Here, at The Lycium Centre in Bangor, we believe in treating each client as an individual.  After a detailed consultation and diagnosis period, we provide a personalised treatment plan.  This ensures you are provided with the optimum combination of therapies and aftercare advice and exercises to give you pain relief.

It is essential that you are treated as a whole. Sometimes we think if we take it easy that back/ joint pain will disappear.  This can happen, but not often.

Typically, once we are in pain, we will automatically adopt compensatory behaviour to avoid pain… or so we think. The longer we do … the more likely we get into poor postural habits which cause further pain and exacerbate our condition even more.

For example, it is very common for someone to present with a sore elbow or hand and the origin of issue is tension in the neck. Similarly sciatic pain down the leg - originates as a lower back issue. We treat the body as a whole because it is all interconnected.

MASSAGE

Wide scope of massage types and therapies to relax tension or stimulate circulation.  This aids recovery and helps us cope with the stresses of modern living.

ACUPUNCTURE

Excellent Chinese Medicine Therapy for pain reduction.  Is both curative and preventative. Uses very fine needles to sedate or strengthen.  Used in conjunction with massage. Extremely beneficial for replenishing you energy and calming your mind.

MOBILISATION TECHNIQUES

I often use several of these after massage and acupuncture so that my clients can experience further improvements in both flexibility and pain reduction.

EXERCISES

Often I share exercises tailored to assist your specific pain issue. These can enhance your recovery and improve mobility and can be used at home between treatments.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WILL TREATMENT RELIEVE BACK PAIN FAST?

We are all individuals and often experience different symptoms and issues.  Our state of health is impacted by many factors. We hope there is one quick fix or pill that will miraculously cure all.

You need to be individually assessed.  The severity of your condition and the length of time you have been experiencing the pain all have a part to play.

HOW MANY TIMES WILL I NEED A SESSION TO RELIEVE PAIN?

Sometimes, if it is a recent onset, I can make a substantial difference in a few treatments. There are no guarantees.  The truth is - the longer you have had the condition, the worse it is, the longer it will take to nurture yourself back to health.  Quite often, I see people who think it is a recent problem but it has, in fact, gone on for years and it has just become unbearable.

Preventative followup treatments are always recommended to keep yourself right.  I will always tell you if I cannot help and will not charge for advice given.

Typically one treatment a week for 4 - 6 weeks then monthly to maintain progress, increase wellness and prevent recurrence.
